A new web browser for Pocket PC's on the way
scottmag writes, "PalmOS is not the only place where browser development is occurring. Bitstream's Thunderhawk browser for PocketPC is now in beta testing. It will shrink a 640x480 web page to fit a 320x240 PocketPC screen in landscape orientation. Thunderhawk's secret is a font designed by the creator of TrueType to make text legible at the reduced resolution. The browser itself is 100k and contains some support for JavaScript and CSS along with the special font. There is no mention of whether a proxy is used, but it seems unlikely. The Jornada 540 and 560 series will be supported initially and a 30-day free trial will be offered after the beta period."
Original site of Bitstream "ThunderHawk": Full-featured Web browsing technology (include photos).
The technology key is: "By leveraging our expertise in font rendering technology, Bitstream has created the wireless Web browsing experience most wireless device users expect but have not yet received from current offerings. Most browsers on wireless devices either repurpose rich Web pages into long screens of boring text, or show users only a peephole of a Web page."
When I get a chance I will review and report it to you here.
