Beaming Promos a Tough Read
You're walking down the street in New York City and have a sudden urge to read a selection from Stephen King's new short story collection, Everything's Eventual.
Just aim your handheld at one of the 100 kiosks around the city, and an excerpt will be beamed through an infrared signal, delivering a Kingly selection.
And if you like the scary snippet, feel free to beam it to friends. For free, of course. If nothing else, it's a way to fill the time waiting for the light to change.
While many avenues have been explored in book promotion, offering excerpts on the street is something new. But while some believe this is a brilliant new marketing idea, others say it's the King version of the emperor's new clothes.
