Pocket Reader Loosing you PDA Memory (cont'd)
Memory problem with ebooks with pictures in Pocket Reader.
I asked Ken Mattern regarding the problem of viewing several pages of pictured ebooks (such as Pocket PC Magazine) could take 20-30 MB main memory, he will consult the problem with Matt Arant of Pocket PC Magazine on what cause the problem.
Preliminary his thoughts are:
"Yes I have been aware of this problem. I believe that is directly related to the conversion from Word or other automated systems that do not take into account the size of the graphic images. Whenever I create an eBook with illustrations I always format the image to fit on the Pocket PC page. Get my illustrated Oliver Twist by Dickens to see what I mean.
I don't know why the fonts have chenged but they surely have. My acknowledgements page still displays the font in a size that is far too big, even though I keep reducing it! I really haven't had any problems with the new Microsoft Reader, but I also have to admit that the only books I read on my Pocket PC are the ones that I publish and I never have problems with them.
As you very well know the Word plugin and other automated systems pack so much useless HTML into the output file as to make it far too big.
I guess that in the end it all boils down to how the book is crafted. If care is taken the book will have a small footprint and will paginate correctly and quickly. However if the preliminary work is not done properly then these problems will come to the surface."
(I guess they should use the Quill Pro then ;-) )
