Software Review
Speed Reader Plus 3.8.7
Firstly, I thought this is only software that teaches us a method of becoming speed reader. Then I was mistaken. It is speed reader software.
"The average person reads 150 words per minute. In an effort to improve reading speed for combat personnel, the U.S. military funded research to study the biomechanics of reading. Their findings revealed that most of our time reading is wasted as our eyes move from left to right, collecting each word. To improve reading performance, the researchers developed a stationary reading system that rapidly displayed words in a fixed location. They found this new reading method significantly increased reading speed and reading comprehension. Reading speeds of over 1000 words per minute were achieved. The inventors received a U.S. Patent for this technology they call "Rapid Serial Visualization Presentation (RSVP)"."
In a generation X term, is like reading flashing words from MTV.
What I like about Speed Reader Plus:
* It is great for casual reading, like long emails, long news article. All you have to do is just select all text, copy then paste to Speed Reader Plus, then start reading.
* The color bar will tell you when to blink your eyes. When it becomes red, time to take a break for you eyes.
* It is cool, if you think it over how the methods work (combining flash text and color bar).
* In the latest version if you tap the color bar it will pause the reading.
How to Improve this:
* I would love to see the color bar can become a pop up screen in any PPC programs, like in Pocket Word, Pocket Explorer, MS Reader etc.
* The Installation process, take only one pass, currently it will install the visual basic first to your PPC before installing the main program. It is kind of scarring novice users.
* Ability to import PDF, LIT, DOC, and more documents formats.
My final verdict: If you are busy with long mailing list, bulking electronic office reports. This will help you speeding the process. But I don't see the program to be used for reading literature books. But that is a personal choice, I guess.
