In second-commercial-title's-almost-ready news, if anyone out there wants an "advanced review copy," I've got a new translation of Gustav Meyrink's The Golem that I'll be offering Friday once I get the page nice.
Meyrink, by the way, was a failed 'n jailed businessman in the old Austro-Hungarian empire, who after a bit of hashish discovered that he could only think in pictures. The Golem was his first novel, dealing with Prague's Jewish ghetto, mysticism, Kaballah, revenge etc. From the back cover (this is the Dedalus translation by Mike Mitchell, not the flawed Pemberton), Jorge Luis Borges said it was the most horrifying thing he'd ever read.
