Yo, Sen. Edwards! N.C. Firm--Not Just E-bookdom--Is among DMCA Victims
Washington's gift to the Net, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, has hit a North Carolina firm via a suit filed by Lexmark, the printer giant. Yes, this is the same DMCA that flouts the First Amendment and encourages inept and cumbersome protection schemes within e-bookdom. The DMCA-victimized firm, Static Control Components in Sanford, is within an easy drive of the Raleigh campaign headquarters of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, and it'll be interesting to see if enough situations like this can finally persuade Edwards to be the first of the major candidates to break out of the wimpout mode and denounce the DMCA.
